Micro- and nanotechnology is a key technolgy in surface finishing. Application of silanes as surface coatings enables the surface to be modified to improved properties or generate novel characteristics. A minimum of environmental friendly chemistry allows producing thin layer systems to meet the requirements. Silanes open the way to competitive and flexible tools to obtain a range of surface finishes. The properties such as transparency, scratch and abrasion resistance, chemical stability and corrosion resistance, may be combined in order to obtain a multi-functional product, e.g. anti-fingerprint surfaces exhibiting excellent corrosion resistance.
